Without Shopify Plus, checkout steps are closed to apps: you're left with the cart and the shipping settings.

In France, your customers want to find, before they pay, the total price with tax and shipping included, a delivery date, their pickup point and the 14-day withdrawal right. Choosing a pickup point before payment works without Plus: talk to your warehouse before you turn it on.

## The benchmark

On a standard plan, [Shopify's documentation](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/checkout-settings/customize-checkout-configurations?ref=conversion.club) reserves for Plus the apps that add a block to the Information, Shipping and Payment steps.

You keep the logo, colors and fonts, the thank-you and order-tracking pages, the shipping and payment settings, and everything that comes before checkout (our [full audit](https://conversion.club/optimizing-e-commerce-checkout-the-complete-audit/) covers them in detail).

The pickup point is one of those settings, and it took us a while to see it ourselves. In January 2026, the two managers of a gourmet grocery store were testing their own checkout with us on a video call. “And they don't make me pick my \[pickup point\]?”

We answered what we thought we knew: the choice happens after payment, and only Plus lets you touch it. Two minutes later, once the screen had scrolled back up, it was the managers who withdrew their question: “Oh yes, and there, ‘ship to pickup point.’ \[…\] Our mistake. Forget what we said.”

We should have withdrawn our answer: the option was at the top of the shipping step, and nobody had seen it.

[The help page on pickup points](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/fulfillment/setup/delivery-methods/pickup-points?ref=conversion.club) confirms what the screen showed: a French store that ships from France can offer pickup points before payment with Mondial Relay, Colissimo or Chronopost, with no plan requirement.

## The rule

Nothing that matters for the decision should appear for the first time after the address is entered. The final price, the date and the delivery method are visible from the cart, then checkout confirms them.

The law, in fact, requires most of this information before the order: the table follows the obligations in [the official guide](https://entreprendre.service-public.gouv.fr/vosdroits/F23455?ref=conversion.club), and the “Where” column is our suggestion.

| What the customer must find | Where |
| ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Total price including tax and shipping | Product page, cart, order summary |
| [Delivery date or lead time](https://conversion.club/playbook/how-do-delivery-time-and-shipping-cost-affect-my-conversion-rate/) (30 days at most if nothing is stated) | Product page, cart, shipping step |
| 14-day withdrawal right and model form | Terms of sale, cart, confirmation email |
| “Withdraw from the contract here” function, mandatory since June 19, 2026 | Footer and customer account, throughout the withdrawal period |
| 2-year legal guarantee of conformity | Product page, terms of sale |
| Company identity, consumer mediator | Legal notice and terms of sale, linked from the cart |

According to the same guide, missing information about the withdrawal right extends the period by twelve months. Have your lawyer review the whole thing.

## The steps

1. The total. [Show shipping costs from the cart](https://conversion.club/playbook/why-do-my-visitors-add-to-cart-but-not-buy/), tax included, along with [the amount still missing to reach free shipping](https://conversion.club/playbook/what-should-your-free-shipping-threshold-be/).
2. The pickup point. Turn on the native option in “Settings > Shipping and delivery,” alongside the other delivery methods (the admin calls pickup points “pickup locations”).
3. Express buttons. Place an order with Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal: according to [the same help page](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/fulfillment/setup/delivery-methods/pickup-points?ref=conversion.club), pickup points aren't offered to anyone who picks one of these buttons at the first step. Measure their share of your sales, then decide how much room to give them.
4. Reassurance. Gather the 14 days, the 2-year guarantee and the cost of returns in the cart, one sentence each.
5. Payment. Check that [credit card comes first, PayPal second](https://conversion.club/playbook/which-payment-methods-to-offer-in-each-country/), and installment payments if the amount warrants it. Show the accepted payment methods from the cart.
6. The aftermath. Repeat the “withdraw from the contract here” link [on the thank-you page and in the email](https://conversion.club/playbook/what-should-go-on-your-order-confirmation-page/). Shopify [suggests relying](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/compliance/legal/eu-right-of-withdrawal?ref=conversion.club) on self-service returns and cancellations: check that [someone who bought without an account](https://conversion.club/playbook/should-you-require-account-creation-before-purchase/) can use them too.

## The trap

The native pickup point changes where your labels come from. From our reading of the documentation, they are then bought in Shopify, at the rate of the account Shopify holds with the carrier (it's spelled out for [Mondial Relay](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/fulfillment/fulfilling-orders/shipping-labels/shipping-carriers/mondial-relay?ref=conversion.club)).

In September, the head of a ready-to-wear brand with outsourced logistics asked us for pickup points for the peak season. The warehouse wouldn't take these labels, and we had nothing else to offer the brand without Plus.

Working around checkout has a cost too. A brand the authors work with had installed a one-click buying module, partly to show pickup points earlier in the journey.

That module carries at least a quarter of its sales, almost all of them invisible in Shopify's web analytics, and the team has to maintain two journeys.

## The sentence for your leadership

First, ask your warehouse whether it can ship a parcel whose label comes from Shopify. If it says yes, turn on the option and place three orders on a phone the same day: one by card with a pickup point, one with an express button, one followed all the way to the printed label. Then copy this sentence and rewrite it with your answers:

> “Pickup point before payment is possible on our current plan, without moving to Plus. Our warehouse \[accepts / refuses\] labels bought in Shopify, and \[X\]% of our orders are paid with Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal, which skip the pickup point choice. So I propose \[turning the option on before peak season / waiting\].”
